Bio

Born in a time before computers as we know them today, I, Rima Khalek was left to my imagination and outdoor play for entertainment. So began a love affair with creating and nature.

As a multi media artist,

Growing up in a time before modern day distractions, I was left to my imagination for entertainment. I was lucky enough to have spent my early childhood in Tunisia, Portugal, and Brazil. I spent my youth barefoot exploring the streets, beaches, hills, and farmland. I spoke to animals, invented, and played in the garden. I let my imagination take hold, and so began a love affair with nature and her creative influence.

Fast forward. I am now an Asheville NC via Oakland CA based artist and mother who expresses herself through many mediums. I create sculptures and build stories within them. I create highly emotional work that people can relate or escape into. I make touchable dreams.

In 2014, while cutting a kiwi fruit, I raised a slice to the light and a vision was born; “Fruit Glass Windows”. Through trial and error I have created a process that has enabled me to bring natures intricate beauty into an allegory of my mind's eye.  I am intrigued and somewhat obsessed with all the nuances of nature. The details that many people pass over, I look deeper into. The tangle of roots, the veins in a pepper, the cellular pattern in a tomato, overlapping shadows, or the intricate lines of a fingerprint. It is a meditation. I am in awe by nature’s simple and complex beauty all around us.

Thank you for checking out my work and I  hope it touched you in some way.
